What's New at the Fringe

Best of Fest

OPENING DAY

Wednesday, July 16

We’re getting things rolling at noon, so head down to the Strip (a.k.a. Old Market Square) to get in on the action!

Noon – 6 pm

Kids Fringe kick off the festival throughout the park with many activities and performances for the whole family thanks to Great West Life.  Stop by the Info Tent to grab a souvenir or stroll through the vendor market and browse the shops and grab a bite to eat.

6 – 9:30 pm

Get into the swing of Fringe with our fantastic entertainers performing on the MTS Allstream Outdoor Stage all day long.  Witness feats of incredible skill, enjoy hilarious comedy, listen to music that makes you want to shake, rattle and roll – everything that the Winnipeg Fringe is all about!

9:30 pm

Fringe After Dark with host Ken Rudderham – don’t miss the first installment of this talk/variety show featuring Fringe artists that is sure to be a bigger hit than Cirque du Soleil.  Ken and his guests will dazzle and delight, guaranteeing that you will want to come back for more (and you can: nightly at 9:30 during the Fringe).

CLOSING DAY

Is it you?

The Karaoke Contest runs from 6:00 to 6:30 pm on July 23, 24, 25 and 26 at the MTS Allstream Outdoor Stage. Sign up at the Info Tent and if your name is drawn, the stage is all yours. Each day’s winner will be invited to the finals at Fringe After Dark on Sunday, July 27 at 9:30 pm.

Karaoke Contest winner declared after rousing 'clap-off': 79-year-old Ray Hill won two tickets to Neil Diamond after wowing audiences at the finals of the Karaoke contest on the final Sunday of Viva Las Fringe.

Best of Fest

Fringe performers go all in to bring you the very best in live entertainment and the Best of Fest is your chance to reward them by betting on your favourite shows. You will have to show your hand, but it’s all part of a winning system.

Here’s how it works. On the last day of the Fringe, we’ll leave two spots open at each of the 11 regular venues. The two companies at each venue with the highest ticket sales and popular momentum are awarded an additional show on the last day of the festival. It’s a win-win situation since Fringers get an extra chance to see the most popular shows.

Advance tickets for Best of Fest go on sale at 10:00am, Thursday, July 24. This year, 100% of Best of Fest tickets will be available in advance, so make sure to gets yours before they sell out! For more information, call 9-4-FRINGE (943-7464), visit the Info Tent or Fringe Central (174 Market Ave).

The Best of Fest is a fundraiser: 50% of the revenue goes to the Fringe Festival and the other 50% goes to the winning companies.
